Albemarle County Public Schools Makes AYP with Help from Schoolnet

New York, NY, Sept 9, 2009 - Schoolnet, Inc., the nation’s leader in data-driven decision making congratulates Albemarle County Public Schools on achieving Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for 2008-09 under the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).  Albemarle met all 29 benchmarks and indicators of student achievement included in NCLB. To help achieve these results the district utilized Schoolnet’s integrated suite of data-driven education software.

Schoolnet’s award-winning software allowed Albemarle to access, evaluate and transform comprehensive real-time student data into actionable knowledge needed to improve student achievement.

“We are especially pleased with our results as NCLB targets increase annually and our student performance continues to meet and exceed those targets. Since implementing Schoolnet three years ago, Albemarle County has also significantly narrowed, and in some cases eliminated, achievement gaps experienced by some students. Schools have posted double-digit increases of as much as 43 percent in reading and mathematics test scores over the past three years,” said Pam Moran, Superintendent, Albemarle County Public Schools. “We attribute our success to our excellent teachers who work together in professional learning communities. They are able to access, understand and apply real-time student assessment data through our information management system, Schoolnet.”

With the use of Schoolnet, teachers can easily see where challenges and opportunities exist and engage learners through differentiated instruction. Schoolnet’s easy to use interface provides educators throughout the district a framework to answer the tough questions on each student in the classroom at the most detailed level.”

In addition, the Virginia Department of Education announced that students in Albemarle County surpassed the state benchmarks by wide margins, posting greater than 90 percent pass rates for both mathematics and reading. For 2008-09, the Virginia Department of Education mandated that 79 percent of students needed to show proficiency on the Commonwealth’s Standards of Learning (SOL) examinations in mathematics, and 81 percent of students must show proficiency on the SOL tests in reading.  In Albemarle County, 91 percent of students in grades K-12 passed the mathematics exams, while 93.6 percent of students passed the reading assessments.
