Schoolnet’s StudentConnection module allows students to sign in with their own accounts and see grades, attendance, discipline incidents, report cards, and even allows them to send notes to teachers and create their own “trigger” notifications. In addition, students can submit their course requests for the next school year (at districts using Online Course Requests). Student course requests are also visible to parents in ParentConnection.
Students can login using unique, system-generated passwords that can be automatically sent to each student’s email address on record. Once students have logged in, they can view all recent, upcoming and past assignments. Students can view a cumulative list of all their grades, as well as pull up a “real-time” progress report by clicking on the desired cycle grade. Attendance data is also available, along with Discipline incident reports and recent report cards. Students can set up “trigger” notifications that allow them to receive alerts when a grade drops below a certain threshold or when they are marked with an attendance event. Alerts can be sent by email or text message (districts using our Voice Server module can also use phone callouts).
Course requests for the next school year can also be submitted in StudentConnection. Students can request courses from each “required” department (these are set by the district when departments are defined) and then request courses from “elective” departments to fulfill the remainder of their schedules. Once they have completed their requests for each department, the students will submit their requests to the counselor. Certain courses may require approval – these can be indicated in the course catalog.
After students have submitted their course requests, counselors and/or teachers can approve requests. Counselors have a useful “request management” page that allows the user to search for students by name or ID number. The results can also be filtered to display only students whose schedules have been approved, students whose schedules have not been approved, students who have not yet submitted requests, or all students who have submitted requests. The completed course requests will be stored in the GradeSpeed.NET database, and can be exported to the SMS for use in scheduling.
